Vacuuming: It is a good idea to vacuum (with a soft bristle brush) regularly, because small stones, mud, and dirt tracked in from the outside can breakdown your hardwood’s finish. It is also a good idea to use welcome mats in entrances and foyers so that people can wipe their feet before entering your home. Mopping: Water and wood floors do not mix. Use only a manufacturer's recommended cleaning products on your hardwood floor. We recommend Woodpecker cleaning products for all of our lines of hardwood. Woodpecker products are also ideal for cleaning all types of laminate floors. Furniture Glides: Narrow wheels and sharp wooden/metal furniture legs can scratch and dent hardwood floors, which can quickly turn a new prefinished floor into an old worn floor. Any furniture that rests directly on top of a hardwood floor should have felt protectors or furniture coasters. For heavy objects such as pianos use rubber cups/caps. Climatizing: Whether you buy hardwood from our store or somewhere else, it is recommended that you climatize your hardwood prior to installation. Under regular conditions we recommend placing the wood in the room where it is to be installed for 4 days or more prior to installation (confirm the recommended time with your manufacturer). This will greatly reduce or eliminate problems such as shrinkage, cupping/crowning and splitting of your wood floor, which is associated with moisture or discrepancies of humidity between your hardwood and sub floor. Spills: Accidents happen, and when they do and something spills on your hardwood floor, you should use a slightly damp white cloth, or paper towel to immediately clean it up and dry the area. For more difficult spots or stains follow the manufacturer's recommended cleaning procedures. | ![]() | |
